Ok, on the whole shabang of life, this is so minor, it's insignificant, but I am looking for opinions nonetheless.
There are 2 Science Fiction genre movies coming out this month, at least 2 that I am interested in. Star Wars prequel Rouge One and the Passengers movie. I think I would enjoy both, but as I only actually invest in the go to the theater experience rarely so I think that I will have to pick one for the whole surround sound, big screen deal.
Rouge One in my thinking is the underdog for my choice based on the fact that its an off shoot of the Star Wars universe that we've seen before, but has the upside that it is not a dogmatic extension of Mr. Lukas' 3 sets of trilogies. It looks like a fun film. Not too heavy on the new ideas, but likely full of action and good CGI stuff. Wonder if Yoda will cameo?
Passengers is a film based on a classic science fiction theme. That is without some imaginative work around of physics, using Warps, or Wormholes, or some other faster-than-light trick, it's a long way between stars, and it will take a long time to get there. Science fiction that respects the physical laws, has a couple approaches to this problem. Generational Ships that send families that have kids that become the crew and than have kids again that become the crew as many times as needed, or put people in suspended animation and wake them up when they get there. There are hybrids of course, but those are the basics. Passengers seems to be following the put them to sleep method. So not original for long time science fiction readers, but a bit new to major film releases.
So whatcha think? Anyone want to join me on one or the other?
Dad
They both look cool. Brad and I are seeing Star Wars this Saturday so we can give you a review afterwards. Brad, you wanna go see Passengers too?

That sounds great. We can make a night of it. I think it opens later this month.
