"Rest is a matter of wisdom, not law" -Kroll

Several months ago I had made plans to attend a three day training for work. I looked ahead to the dates and made sure to ask for the days off. Much to my surprise when this week came closer my three day training had turned into one. So that left me with a longer than usual weekend.

Instead of rushing to fill my time back up with work I decided to find ways to purposefully rest.

I went to a ball game with Pat.

I watched The Shining with Robs and Dad.

I went to a pub and read more of my biography on Lincoln. I ended up winning free stuff in a raffle drawing I didn't even know was happening!

I slept without alarms and had mom's home made spaghetti.

Fast forward to my first day back into my usual shift, I walked in with a fresh sense of energy. I was smiling and social. I felt refreshed.

Sometimes I get blessed with extra time with no responsibilities and I don't take advantage of it. I stay in too much. By the end of those times I tend to feel more groggy and tired and worn out than before.

Stated another way, I tend to feel less rested when I don't intentionally rest than when I do.

I'm still trying to find the ways in which I rest the best, but my next stop is to a nice big sunny field with a blanket and a book.

Cheers

“Rest is not idleness, and to lie sometimes on the grass under trees on a summer's day, listening to the murmur of the water, or watching the clouds float across the sky, is by no means a waste of time.”
