Well, it is 1:43 A.M. and I am sitting at the Security Desk. Though the medical team is scampering around in back with an excess of Patient's, I am in front where there isn't anyone in the lobby save a Nurse and a Pharmacy Tech.
I find myself in many such situations since changing my schedule to the overnight shift. Naturally, if I didn't set forth a purpose during my shift I would quickly go stir crazy. I don't like not having something to do and there is a certain lack of "busy work" associated with my role.
Which brings me to my goal. While at first when I switched shifts to be a nighter, I sloughed away my time with socializing or perusing the internets, I have recently attempted to be more productive with my time. I am endeavoring this year to do the "52 in 52: Read Fifty-Two books in Fifty-Two Weeks."
It has been an interesting journey thus far. I have varied from Fiction to Non-Fiction: from Fantasy to Classic Literature to Poetry to Biography.
Tonight, taking a break from a biography on Abraham Lincoln (who apparently was a witty, goofy, humorous fellow as a teen), I read and finished Othello by William Shakespeare. Othello is a tragedy of an honorable War General who is cheated and tricked by his underling Iago. Iago plays the strings of all those around him like a Palpatine seeking power. The play builds tension for Four Acts before ending with more everyone dying from violent rages.
The funny thing about the play, is that all the tension of Iago's insidious lies that bolster everyone's distrust to end the play in calamity could all have been avoided with communication.
So anyway, I bring this all up because, as this is my inaugural post, I thought I'd echo the previous statements that this blog is a good idea, that I'd encourage the use by others, and that its good we are all communicating so as we do not end up killing each in some Shakespearan bummer whilst spouting soliloquies.
I don't actually think it'll come to that. Nevertheless, I'm glad we're bloggin'.
Don't stab each other with long swords.
I ought to be getting back to Lincoln.
Cheers,
Bradley
You are always welcome to raid my bookshelf!
